CurriculumThe daily schedule of the camp is extremely intense so that we can pack as much as possible into the short week of camp. Marching sessions are spent improving the quality of every student's contemporary marching style, and training students to be effective teachers themselves. At Camp, each student practices teaching and leading a group of peers, while receiving one-on-one coaching from our outstanding staff. Campers will learn exercises and teaching approaches to address the most common problems marchers have on the field. Colorguard camp uses the same approach, with an emphasis on how to teach and clean guard work. Leadership and motivational seminars are held each day. Our dynamic staff explains core concepts of powerful leadership. Campers will learn the Seven Pillars of Leadership Power. They will unlock their own leadership potential and learn time-tested "tricks of the trade" that will allow them to help their own band programs in extraordinary ways. Specialty clinics each day focus on various aspects of drum major skills and knowledge. These clinics can cover a wide array of topics, including salutes, colorguard basics, "old-style" techniques, score reading, organizational systems, instrumental skills, and sound delay on the field. Conducting workshops focus on developing a clear, readable conducting pattern. The goal is that each student can control pulse on the field and conduct in various musical styles appropriate to the field. Advanced techniques include hand independence, expressive techniques, and odd meter patterns. Each camper will have individualized help sessions in addition to the focused (and fun!) group sessions. Parents can rest assured that there is proper supervision at the camp. There are several male and female counselors and staff present at all times to offer guidance and counseling to the students. Saturday morning will bring with it a student show, awards ceremony, and staff introductions for all parents, friends, and family members who wish to come. |
